Beneficiaries
The various beneficiaries are the following:
- Single parents or the very poor that will be reunited with their children
- Single parents or the very poor who will receive support and be able to avoid premature separation from their children
- Childless Families seeking for adoption
- Orphaned and abandoned children who will benefit from the programme
- Individuals and institutions involved in the operation of children’s homes
- Communities in which the children’s homes are located.
- Social workers care givers and other employees of children’s homes.
- Department of Social Welfare which will benefit directly from the funds and logistics to be provided, as well as additional social workers to be recruited.
Gender related beneficiaries
The ultimate beneficiaries of the proposed project are children and young adults of both sexes between the ages of 0 -21 years.
However, it is likely that as far as skills acquisition is concerned, by far the largest proportion benefiting from the training components of the programme will be women, for the following reasons:
- one third of Ghanaian households are headed by women because of divorce, widowhood and single parenting, CRI is likely to affect more females than males.
- Among those who make care giving their profession there is a disproportionately high number of females
Participation Of The Beneficiaries
Individuals and institutions involved in care will be expected to endeavor to comply with the registration and other requirements. They will also be expected to submit regular reports on their activities as required by DSW, to enable the latter to monitor their activities effectively.
Residents in communities will be expected to assist DSW as follows:
- Monitoring of the activities of children’s homes and foster care givers, by reporting any new developments or adverse conditions in their area to DSW for the latter are action.
- Absorption of needy children within families.
Staff and other employees of children’s homes will be required to improve the quality of the facilities and services that they provide to the children who reside with them having benefited from the proposed training programmes.
