Community Sanitation Project

Restoring Dignity Through Safe Sanitation

At Basics Aids Organization, we believe that healthy communities begin with access to basic sanitation. Clean and safe toilet facilities are essential for protecting public health, preserving human dignity, and preventing the spread of disease.

When we first began working in Charles City, Massajja, we identified a critical challenge. The growing community had no public toilet, forcing many residents to live without access to safe sanitation facilities. This posed serious health risks, especially for children, women, and elderly people.

Recognizing that sanitation is the foundation of a healthy community, Basics Aids Organization made this our first community development project in Charles City.

Our Response

With financial contributions from our own members, Basics Aids Organization planned, funded, and constructed a public toilet to serve the community.

This was completed before the construction of the Community Sage Deliverance Power Church and represented our commitment to addressing urgent community needs with practical solutions.

The sanitation facility was built to improve hygiene, reduce the risk of disease, and provide residents with a safe and clean place to meet one of life’s most basic needs.

A Commitment Beyond Construction

Our commitment did not end when the toilet was completed.

To ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and operational, Basics Aids Organization employed Madam Florence as the caretaker responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facility.

She continues to serve in this role and receives her salary through the support of Basics Aids Organization.

This demonstrates our belief that sustainable development means not only building community facilities but also ensuring they continue to benefit the people for years to come.

Community Impact

The sanitation project has contributed to:

  • Improved public hygiene.
  • Increased access to safe sanitation facilities.
  • Reduced health risks associated with poor sanitation.
  • Greater dignity for community members.
  • A cleaner and healthier environment.
  • Employment through the ongoing engagement of a local caretaker.

This project became the foundation for many other community development initiatives that followed, including the construction of the Community Sage Deliverance Power Church and other programs serving vulnerable families.

Why This Project Matters

Access to sanitation is a basic human need and an important part of community health.

By responding to this challenge, Basics Aids Organization demonstrated that sustainable development begins with listening to the community, identifying urgent needs, and taking practical action.

This project reflects our long-term commitment to improving lives through community-led solutions that create lasting impact.

Looking Ahead

As Charles City continues to grow, Basics Aids Organization remains committed to improving sanitation, health, education, healthcare, food security, and community development.

We welcome partnerships with individuals, organizations, churches, foundations, and development agencies who share our vision of building healthier and more resilient communities.
